In my last post, I want to show you something that really qualifies as the most bizarre landscape I have ever seen. These are the Uyuni salt flats, situated in the high Andes of Bolivia. It is a 3600 sq. km. flat area covered in salt. And in the rain season it is submerged in about 15cm of water. And this transforms it from a white stretch of salt into the world’s biggest mirror.
At most times you could not distinguish the salt flat from the sky. Therefore it was impossible to estimate distances and sizes of objects or persons. This makes it a beautiful place for photography.
We crossed the area by 4×4. One of the most thrilling rides I have ever had because we were allowed to sit on top of the vehicles! Imagine plowing through the water at 60km/ph, sitting on top of a Landrover! And no matter how hard you drive, the surroundings never seem to move, it’s almost like you’re making no progress. Stuck in a giant mouse wheel or something…
